Abstract
The article focuses on President Donald Trump's consideration of reclassifying marijuana at the federal level, potentially lowering its Schedule I status, which currently deems it a drug with high abuse potential and no accepted medical use. Trump has expressed support for medical marijuana and state-level legalization, signaling a shift from traditional conservative positions, and has promised to work with Congress on related reforms, including safe banking for cannabis businesses. Despite past inconsistencies, such as opposing certain protections for medical cannabis patients, Trump's recent statements and actions suggest he may pursue changes to federal marijuana laws during his second presidential term. The article also notes that about 40 states have legalized medical marijuana, and public support for legalization is high.
