Abstract

The article focuses on research examining the impact of self-rated health on transitions in and out of marriage and cohabitation across six countries. Utilizing large-scale longitudinal panel surveys from Australia, Germany, South Korea, Russia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the study finds that poor self-rated health adversely affects union formation, marriage formation, separation, divorce, and repartnering, with varying effects based on the type of transition. The research indicates that health-related inequalities accumulate in the marriage market, with minimal gender differences and a decline in health effects on union dissolution with age. The findings suggest a consistent pattern across the studied countries. [Extracted from the article]
