Abstract
The article recounts the lesser-known story of Grover C. Bergdoll, a soldier during World War I who was court-martialed twice for desertion. It details his escape, capture, and lengthy court-martial proceedings, which cost millions of dollars and ultimately led to his dishonorable discharge. It is further reported that despite his release from prison in 1944, Bergdoll's life took a tragic turn, and he died in a psychiatric hospital in 1962.
