Abstract
The article focuses on Evan Lieberman’s book *Until We Have Won Our Liberty*, which offers a reassessment of South Africa’s democratic development since the end of apartheid in 1994. Contrary to prevailing pessimism, Lieberman argues that South African democracy has been notably successful, highlighting progress in infrastructure, rights guarantees, and dignified development. The book challenges the common deficit-based approach in political science by emphasizing achievements rather than shortcomings in the country’s democratic transition. This perspective invites renewed reflection on South Africa’s political progress within scholarly and public discourse.
