Abstract

Farmers in the Cauvery delta districts of Tamil Nadu are protesting against the state government's acquisition of agricultural land for the new plant of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT). The farmers argue that this acquisition will reduce cultivable land in the delta districts and have not been properly informed about the government's actions. They demand clarification on the location of the industries and a white paper on the issue. The SIPCOT's plans to acquire land for its Phase-III project have previously sparked mass protests, leading to the revocation of the Goonda Act provisions. [Extracted from the article]
