Abstract
This study focuses on police activities linked to the recovery of stolen motor vehicles in Manchester, UK, analyzing 6,104 theft reports from 2018. Using a case–control design with 250 recovered and 250 unrecovered vehicle cases, the research identifies key factors influencing recovery based on 20 variables derived from prior literature and Greater Manchester Police data. Results show that vehicles were most often recovered during police investigations or unrelated proactive police actions, as well as through reports made by victims or members of the public. The study highlights the diverse roles of police and community involvement in vehicle recovery efforts.
