Abstract

Researchers from York University in Toronto, Canada, conducted a study on the impact of recreational cannabis legalization on cannabis-related acute care events among adults with schizophrenia. The study found that legalization led to significant reductions in cannabis-related emergency department visits during the initial phase, particularly among men and women with schizophrenia. The findings suggest that regulatory measures accompanying legalization could improve the quality and safety of cannabis products for vulnerable patient populations. Further research is recommended to optimize healthcare responses for this group. [Extracted from the article]
