Abstract
The article focuses on research conducted in Fort Collins, Colorado, regarding adolescent substance abuse and the factors influencing it. The study, supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, utilized data from the National Consortium on Alcohol and Neurodevelopment in Adolescence (NCANDA) to explore how alcohol urge regulation, drug urge regulation, motivational attitudes, and alcohol expectancies interact to affect substance use behaviors among adolescents. Findings indicate that alcohol urge regulation significantly predicts binge drinking, while drug urge regulation negatively correlates with total drug use. The research emphasizes the importance of early education and supportive policies in mitigating early substance use and its associated harms. [Extracted from the article]
