Abstract
The article focuses on the migration and marriage experiences of young Irish workhouse women who immigrated to Australia between 1848 and 1850 under the Irish workhouse orphan scheme. Topics include the social and economic conditions that led to their emigration, the age and background of the girls selected for the program, and the complex marital and personal relationships they formed as they adapted to colonial life.
