Abstract
This article focuses on research examining the relationship between perceived social support and anxiety-related mental health disorders among Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) cadets in Regina, Canada. The study found that higher levels of social support were significantly associated with lower odds of generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder among the cadets, whose perceived social support was comparable to the general Canadian population but higher than that of serving RCMP members. The research highlights social support as a protective factor against anxiety disorders and suggests that decreases in perceived social support may occur during RCMP service. These findings underscore the importance of addressing factors that reduce social support to mitigate mental health challenges in public safety personnel.
