Abstract

Researchers from Flinders University conducted a study on the influence of autism and theory of mind on detecting criminal intent in social interactions. The study involved autistic and nonautistic adults listening to audio scenarios to assess their ability to respond adaptively to suspicious behavior. The results showed that pronounced theory of mind difficulties may heighten criminal vulnerability for both autistic and nonautistic individuals, challenging the validity of a generalized 'autism' legal defense.
