Abstract

The Delhi High Court has ordered Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale to pay Rs 50 lakh in damages in a defamation case filed by former diplomat Lakshmi Puri. Gokhale had accused Puri of purchasing property in Switzerland disproportionate to her income in a series of tweets. The court also restrained Gokhale from publishing further defamatory content and directed him to publish an apology in The Times of India and on the platform from which he had posted the tweets. Lakshmi Puri expressed gratitude and a sense of vindication in response to the court's decision. [Extracted from the article]
