Abstract
The article focuses on the updated Book Ban Map released by the literacy nonprofit Little Free Library (LFL) in 2025, which highlights areas in the United States where book challenges and bans are increasing, alongside locations of LFL-branded book sharing boxes. Developed in partnership with the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom and PEN America, the map uses color-coding to indicate the intensity of restrictions at state and county levels and includes interactive features such as search and zoom functions. LFL reports over 200,000 book-sharing boxes worldwide, with 98,000 in the U.S., and notes that nearly 2,500 unique titles have been challenged or banned in U.S. schools and public libraries. The map aims to provide communities with tools to counteract book censorship and promote access to diverse reading materials.
