Abstract
The article critiques the term "Global South" for oversimplifying the diverse archival contexts of Latin America and the Caribbean, which encompass 33 distinct countries with varied languages, cultures, and histories. It argues that the bureaucratic systems inherited from colonial legacies hinder effective collaboration and understanding of archival practices in the region. The author emphasizes the need to decolonize not only archives but also the bureaucratic structures that govern them, advocating for a more nuanced approach to international initiatives that respects local expertise and conditions. The discussion highlights the importance of transforming archival practices through collaboration, transparency, and advocacy for better working conditions in cultural heritage institutions.
