Abstract
Apple had approached Xerox offering the opportunity to purchase stock options in the company in exchange for a demonstration of Xerox technology. DOWNTIME When Apple unveiled the Macintosh computer in 1984, there was one thing in particular that captured people's attention. The Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in California was unusual because it worked independently and it wasn't influenced by the products that were being made by its corporate parent. In their mind, Xerox was not making sufficient use of the technology that had gone into making the Alto and they could see that Apple's engineers were enthused. [Extracted from the article]
