Abstract

This study investigates the impact of unfulfilled publication promises on Indian library professionals' perceptions of academic conferences, focusing on credibility, transparency, and ethical obligations of organizers. Surveying 184 professionals, the research finds that while many attend conferences regularly for professional development and networking, nearly 41% reported that organizers failed to fulfill publication commitments, often citing poor communication and procedural delays as reasons. Factor analysis identified two main effects of broken promises: diminished conference value and diminished conference credibility, both of which negatively influence trust, willingness to attend, and recommendations for future events. The study emphasizes the need for greater transparency, clear communication about publication processes, and ethical standards to sustain the integrity and professional benefits of academic conferences in the library and information science field.
