Abstract
The article focuses on recent dismissals of senior officials at the Library of Congress by President Donald Trump. On May 9, Trump fired Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress and the institution's first African American woman in the role, citing opposition to his agenda; Hayden had been appointed by President Obama in 2016. Additionally, Shira Perlmutter, the Register of Copyrights and senior copyright official, was dismissed after her office released a report on copyright and artificial intelligence that challenged certain commercial uses of copyrighted works without licensing, a stance at odds with some of Trump's tech supporters. These actions reflect tensions between the Trump administration and library leadership over content and copyright policies.
