Abstract

This article systematically reviews the potential benefits and challenges of big data for academic libraries in Ghana, based on a comprehensive analysis of 65 scholarly sources from 2001 to 2023. It highlights that big data can enhance collection development, personalize user services, analyze user behavior, support digital scholarship, and improve data-driven decision-making in Ghanaian academic libraries. Key challenges identified include data privacy and security concerns, effective data management, and the need for staff competency in data analytics and ethical considerations. The study recommends that libraries conduct needs assessments, develop comprehensive data management plans, provide continuous staff training, and collaborate with stakeholders to successfully integrate big data into their operations.
