Abstract

This study examines how students at Kuwait's College of Basic Education (CBE) use digital libraries for information seeking and how this usage is influenced by their digital competence and AI literacy. Using validated questionnaires administered to 334 students, the research found statistically significant positive relationships between both digital competence and AI literacy with the frequency, effectiveness, and quality of digital library use. Multiple regression analysis showed that digital competence and AI literacy together significantly predict students' engagement with digital libraries, with digital competence having a slightly stronger effect. The study recommends integrating digital skills, AI literacy—including ethical and critical awareness—and metacognitive strategies into teacher education curricula to better prepare future educators for AI-enhanced academic environments.
