Effect of AI literacy on online information search competencies among medical students in Pakistan.

Abstract

This article focuses on assessing artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and online information search (OIS) competencies among 330 medical students from 12 public medical institutions in Sindh, Pakistan. The study found that students demonstrated high perceived AI literacy across dimensions such as hardware/software, data literacy, communication, content creation, safety, and career competencies, though they showed less confidence in recognizing AI errors. Additionally, students exhibited strong behavioral, procedural, and metacognitive skills in online information searching, with a significant positive correlation between AI literacy and OIS competencies. The findings suggest that enhancing AI literacy can improve medical students’ abilities to effectively search and evaluate online information, highlighting the importance of integrating AI-related skills into medical education curricula and training programs.
