Abstract

This article focuses on the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and Group B Streptococcus (GBS) co-infection among pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19. A chart review of 34 pregnant patients with COVID-19 found that 26.5% tested positive for an STI—such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HPV, or trichomoniasis—while 23.5% tested positive for GBS. These rates appear higher than the estimated general prevalence of curable STIs (3.3%) and GBS (17.9%) in pregnancy, suggesting potential increased risks in this population. The study highlights the need for further investigation into the relationship between COVID-19 infection and STI co-infection during pregnancy.
