Abstract

In the second half of the book, the formal Labour movement and Labour Party rather fades from view. Scholefield herself was just one of many women active in the emergent Labour Party not as auxiliaries but as leaders and organizers in their own right (p. 67). This book shows how generations of committed and diligent activists laid the groundwork for women's contemporary participation in Labour politics, as well as the obstacles and constraints in their way.
