Abstract
This review focuses on William Golding’s novel *Pincher Martin* (1956), which depicts the experience of Christopher “Pincher” Martin, a temporary lieutenant who drowns and finds himself on a surreal, isolated rock in the North Atlantic. The narrative explores Martin’s fragmented thoughts as he confronts his fate, culminating in an ending that reveals the entire story occurs in the moments before his death. The reviewer critiques the novel’s lack of realistic detail and its abstract, sometimes disjointed style, concluding that it is neither readable nor a strong literary work.
