Abstract

The article focuses on the stylized version of the decorative hedera symbol used by Cambridge University Library in England in transmitting the extant version of the Old English translation of Bede's book "Historia ecclesiastica." Topics include a description of the punctuation symbol as a triangle of dots above a comma, the appearance of the hedera in inscriptions of second-century B.C., and the use of the stylized hedera to separate major segments of the text in Old English translation.
