Abstract

The article discusses the rare Old English pronoun "þæge" found in two manuscripts of King Alfred's translation of Pope Gregory the Great's Cura pastoralis. The manuscripts, T and U, share a common ancestor that likely contained a revised version of the text. Differences in the use of "þæge" between T and U suggest variations in scribes' practices, making it challenging to pinpoint the exact origin of the shared ancestor. The presence of the conjunction "ofþe" alongside "þæge" in the manuscripts does not definitively determine the location of the shared ancestor. [Extracted from the article]
