Abstract
A literary criticism of the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" by the Brothers Grimm is presented, focusing on its role in cultural and political contexts. Topics discussed include the impact of fairy tale translations on national identity, the adaptation of the tale in socialist Slovenia, and the use of fairy tales in nation-building efforts during the nineteenth century and under communist regimes.
