Abstract

To understand the struggles of the taxi industry in the face of this new challenge, del Nido conducted participant observation at two "taxi drivers" bars (which became a prime site of his fieldwork), interviewed officials at the taxi drivers' union, took a three-week course to become a taxi driver, and participated in several protests against Uber alongside taxi drivers. Del Nido traveled to Buenos Aires in mid-2015 to research Argentina's taxi industry. This is a book that should be read by anyone interested in learning more about the fate of the few thousand taxi drivers driving around Buenos Aires and by all those who care about the current state of democracy, everywhere.
