Abstract
The article explores the works of Michaëlle Sergile, a Montreal, Quebec-based, Haitian-born mixed media artist. It describes representations of Black women in Montreal from 1902 to 1968 in her works. It discusses Sergile's views on the link between weaving and the message of cultural reclamation, as well as the writers who have influenced her works, including Frantz Fanon, Maya Angelou and Paul Laurence Dunbar.
