Abstract

The article focuses on the representation and remembrance of slavery in West African literature by analyzing Yaa Gyasi's novel *Homegoing* and Olaudah Equiano's autobiography *The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano*. It highlights how these works serve as alternate historical accounts that challenge Eurocentric narratives by centering African and African diasporic voices, emphasizing themes of resistance, solidarity, and survival. The study situates these texts within a decolonial framework that critiques colonial modernity and its erasure of marginalized memories, illustrating how literature reconstructs history through both factual and imaginative means. By juxtaposing Equiano's firsthand 18th-century account with Gyasi's multi-generational fictional narrative, the article underscores their complementary roles in deepening understanding of slavery's enduring legacies on identity, trauma, and cultural memory in West Africa and its diaspora.
