Abstract

The book "Sophisticated Ladies in life and Literature: Selective Portraits" by Anca Peiu masters the art of the feminine portrait. The volume analyses sophistication as a modus vivendi reflected in the exquisite work and legacy of women writers. Anca Peiu's 'guests' of the book are famous writers of the 19th century, of the 20th but also of the 21st centuries. Some of the authors are: Kate Chopin, Emily Dickinson, Edith Wharton, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Gertrude Stein, Zelda Fitzgerald, Eudora Welty, Flannery O'Connor, Margaret Mitchell, Alice Munro, Therese Anne Fowler, Yaa Gyasi.
