Abstract
The article, "As the Crow Flies," is a fictional narrative by Ethan Cutajar that explores the protagonist's relationship with an unseen and unnamed individual. The protagonist longs for the presence of this person and experiences a mix of desires for violence and intimacy, while also feeling pathetic and dependent. The article delves into the protagonist's thoughts and interactions with a spirit who suggests committing an act of unprovoked violence, which the protagonist finds exhilarating but knows won't be acted upon. Ultimately, the unseen person returns and promises to try again in the future, and the narrator finds solace in the sounds of their surroundings before falling asleep.
