Abstract

The article focuses on the launch of the Brooklyn Expo of Comics (BEC), a new two-day comics festival organized by the Brooklyn Organization Dedicated to the Endurance of the Graphic Arts (BODEGA), a nonprofit supporting comic and graphic arts in Brooklyn and the greater New York area. BEC, scheduled for November 14–15 in Williamsburg, will feature panel discussions with industry leaders and a convention showcasing over 100 artists, aiming to highlight independent comics and zines from New York and beyond. BODEGA is led by comics industry professionals including executive director Bryce Gold and board chair James Tynion IV, who also provided initial funding. The event will introduce the BODEGA Comic Arts Trophy (CAT) and launch the Brooklyn Annual of Graphically Elevated Literature (BAGEL), a magazine spotlighting local cartoonists.
