Abstract
Robert Volpicelli's book, "Transatlantic Modernism and the US Lecture Tour," explores how modernist writers engaged with American audiences through lecture tours. Volpicelli combines archival research with close readings of various media to demonstrate how the lecture tour transformed modernist authors into commodities. The book examines the lecture circuit's evolution from the 1880s to the mid-twentieth century, highlighting authors such as Oscar Wilde, W.B. Yeats, Rabindranath Tagore, Gertrude Stein, and W.H. Auden. Volpicelli argues that the lecture tour played a significant role in shaping American national identity and offers new insights on topics such as racialization and nationalism.
