Abstract

This article focuses on the Netflix adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's novel *One Hundred Years of Solitude*, directed by Alex Garcia López and Laura Mora. It details the novel's origins, inspired by Mexican writer Juan Rulfo's *Pedro Páramo*, and its significance as a landmark work blending magical realism with Colombian history. The series, produced with the involvement of García Márquez's sons, strives for fidelity to the novel's text and Colombian cultural context but has been critiqued for its melodramatic tone and difficulties translating the novel's complex narrative and emotional depth to the screen. Despite lavish production and authentic casting, the adaptation has received mixed responses, with some viewers preferring other adaptations of Latin American literary classics.
