Abstract

The article focuses on "Young at Art: A Selection of Caldecott Book Illustrations," an exhibition featuring thirty-five original illustrations by twenty-eight recipients of the Caldecott Medal and Caldecott Honor, awards given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (a division of the American Library Association) for distinguished American children’s picture book illustrations. The exhibition spans from the first Caldecott Medal winner in 1938, Dorothy Lathrop, through 2012’s Caldecott Honor recipient E. B. Lewis, and includes works from other published books by these artists. The Caldecott Collection is part of the permanent holdings at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University in Texas, which has collected children’s book illustrations for over fifty years. The exhibition is curated by the museum’s collections curator and organized through ExhibitsUSA, a program of the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
