Abstract

The article focuses on the author’s discovery of her family’s involvement in the Dutch Resistance during World War II, an organization that helped about thirty thousand Jews go into hiding under German occupation. The author’s great-aunt and her siblings used their farm as a safehouse, distributing ration coupons and hiding refugees, while enduring risks including the great-aunt’s imprisonment at Ravensbrück concentration camp. The family’s efforts were recognized with the Resistance Memorial Cross awarded by Royal Decree. This personal history is connected to broader themes of courage, faith, and the legacy of resistance against tyranny in the Netherlands.
