Abstract
The article reviews *Buried Treasures, The Power of Political Fairy Tales* (2023), a collection of essays by Jack Zipes that explores lesser-known literary political fairy tales and their creators from the nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries. Zipes highlights how these fairy tales, often shaped by progressive and Marxist ideologies, remain socially and aesthetically relevant, serving as tools for critical thinking and social critique. The book profiles diverse writers and illustrators, including jurists, artists, and activists, whose works reflect historical political struggles and utopian aspirations. While acknowledging some problematic aspects, such as cultural appropriation in certain authors’ works, the collection encourages ongoing scholarly inquiry into the political and educational functions of fairy tales. The essays collectively argue for the enduring importance of fairy tales in understanding and responding to contemporary social challenges.
