Abstract

Bud, the antagonist in Charles Frazier's Nightwoods, denies that truth is accessible and proceeds from that claim to the murder of Lit. This essay explores the relationship between Bud's "postmodern" attitude toward truth and the trauma and alienation marking the lives of the novel's major characters, including, most notably, Bud himself.
