Abstract
The article focuses on Sim U-Seong, a pivotal figure in the preservation and evolution of traditional Korean puppetry and performing arts. He founded the Seonangdang company and created performances that addressed historical traumas in Korea, drawing from shamanic practices. Sim played a significant role in establishing the Korean Puppeteers’ Association and the Korea Folk Drama Museum, and he was instrumental in designating traditional performing arts as national heritage. His work, particularly in reconstructing the namsadang nori performance art, has left a lasting impact on contemporary Korean puppetry and inspired future generations of artists.
