Abstract

The article analyzes three literary works published in Chicago, USA: Nelė Mazalaitė's (1907-1993) novel The Harvest Time (1956), Birutė Pūkelevičiūtė (1923-2007) novel Eight Leaves (1956), and the prose poem Autuilili of Revelation (1990). The texts selected for analysis are among the few narratives of memory that thoroughly and unflinchingly present the full range of Lithuanian women's war and migration experiences from a female perspective. The works of these authors, discussed iii this article, stand out for their distinctive portrayal of female experience and its artistic expression during particularly difficult circumstances of political, social, and cultural upheaval.
