Abstract

According to him, this "image of Deleuze" ([1]: 8) - sometimes propagated even by Deleuze himself - is simply an erroneous understanding which fails to see the powers of the One, asceticism and abstraction running beneath Deleuze's thought. Alain Badiou famously opened his book on Deleuze by setting himself against an often-repeated characterisation of Deleuze as a thinker of heterogeneous multiplicity and unrestrained desire. (This is not a criticism in itself; Shores should be applauded for venturing into the territories of Deleuze's verbal teaching, especially given the importance Deleuze accorded to pedagogical practice.).
