The article focuses on how Catherine Breillat's 2009 film Barbe bleue reinterprets the Bluebeard fairy tale by translating its transgressive interiority through a dynamic interplay of text and image. Topics include the evolution of Bluebeard's narrative through early illustrations and their subversive power, the historical context and shifting audience of Perrault's original tale, and the critical role of illustration as a form of adaptation that reveals unspoken elements of the story.
