Abstract

Justin, an adult very anxious about the fate of planet Earth in this era of climate change, is shocked and angry at the vague but tenacious indifference he observes among his contemporaries in the face of the risk posed by the ecological threat to the whole of life on Earth. Is this indifference the result of denial, splitting, or derealization? Conversely, what is at work in those for whom, like Justin, eco-anxiety is opposed to this indifference? In ecological anguish and distress, what are the links between the intimate and the collective, between everyday life and history? What phantasmatic representations take hold of planet Earth, with its likely unique psychic status? The complex status of Gaia, primordial goddess of Greek antiquity, allows us to examine the phantasmatic underpinnings of our relationship to Mother Earth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
