Abstract
The article focuses on Ukrainian historian and author Olena Stiazhkina's work documenting the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which she asserts began in 2014 rather than 2022. Her two recently translated books, *Ukraine, War, Love: A Donetsk Diary* and *Cecil the Lion Had to Die*, published by Harvard University Press and supported by the Ukrainian advocacy group Razom, offer personal and fictional perspectives on the war's impact, particularly in Donetsk. Stiazhkina emphasizes Ukrainian resilience and identity, highlighting the cultural and linguistic shifts amid ongoing conflict, and uses her writing to counter misinformation and warn of Russia's broader strategic ambitions.
