Abstract

This article focuses on a recording of Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry's choral work *Prometheus Unbound*, a lyrical play set to music inspired by Wagner's grand storytelling style. Commissioned for the Gloucester Three Choirs Festival and premiered in 1880, the piece features colorful orchestration and powerful choral writing that emphasizes clear diction and textual expression over vocal virtuosity. The recording includes soloists Sarah Fox, Sarah Connolly, David Butt Philip, and Neal Davies, supported by the Crouch End Festival Chorus and the London Mozart Players under William Vann. Additionally, the album presents Parry's well-known choral hymn *Blest Pair of Sirens*. The performance and sound quality are noted for their clarity and engagement, contributing to a renewed interest in Parry's work.
