Abstract

This article reports on research conducted at Universidade São Francisco in Campinas, Brazil, examining the psychological associations between personality traits and engagement with the Star Wars franchise using a newly developed Star Wars Media Consumption (SWMC) scale. The study, involving 996 participants, found that higher Openness correlated with strong engagement in imaginative aspects of the franchise, while higher Psychoticism related to lower engagement. Agreeableness was linked to identifying with the Light side of the Force, reflecting social tendencies, whereas lower Agreeableness aligned with the Dark side, indicating skepticism and competitiveness; Neuroticism was associated with interest in darker themes. The research suggests that media preferences like Star Wars engagement may serve as clinical indicators for personality assessment in psychological practice. [Extracted from the article]
