Abstract
Building on their efforts, Ana Grgi'c creates a vivid and rich panorama of early cinema in the Balkans, the significance of which film history has hardly realized until recently. Technologically, Grgi'c does not focus as much on the varied machinery used by early itinerant exhibitors and practitioners but instead on the materiality of the film's physical consistency - the widely used nitrate film stock.
