Abstract
This article focuses on the gender-based violence and feminicide crisis in Puerto Rico, particularly in the wake of economic hardship, Hurricane María, and the COVID-19 pandemic, and highlights the feminist resistance efforts addressing these issues. It documents how feminist collectives, artists, journalists, and educators have mobilized through street protests, digital activism, artivism, and pedagogy to challenge state inaction and the heteropatriarchal culture that perpetuates violence against women. The article underscores the importance of adopting antiracist feminist pedagogies with a gender perspective in educational curricula to combat systemic violence and promote social justice. It also examines how performances, music, literature, and survivor narratives serve as acts of collective rebellion and empowerment, reclaiming bodies as sites of resistance and pleasure. Finally, the article critiques the State of Emergency declared to address gender violence as largely performative, emphasizing the ongoing need for feminist solidarity and structural change in Puerto Rico.
