Abstract
This issue of Comparative Critical Studies focuses on evolving practices and self-reflection within Comparative Literature, featuring William Marx's essay on the intellectual and emotional dimensions of becoming a comparatist. It includes essays exploring new modes of textual relation, such as Kayvan Tahmasebian’s study of Persian poet Bijan Elahi’s translation as metonymy, Gavin Herbertson’s analysis of Derek Walcott’s intermediality in Caribbean art and literature, and Shannagh Rowland’s examination of female travel narratives that challenge gendered perceptions of wilderness. The issue also announces winners of the 2022–23 John Dryden Translation Competition and presents book reviews on recent scholarship in European literature and translation studies. Additionally, it previews two forthcoming special issues on contrarian speech and multilingualism in the Maghreb, inviting further scholarly contributions.
