Abstract

The poem explores themes of mortality, unfulfilled longing, and the search for meaning in life and death. It reflects on the futility of leaving a lasting mark through words or actions, as the speaker contemplates an old man’s unnoticed death and unrequited love. The poem questions whether life’s efforts are ultimately forgotten, highlighting the loneliness and existential doubts faced by the individual. It concludes with a poignant wish for peace and a final comforting vision for the man who never experienced reciprocal affection. [Extracted from the article]
